About us
Meet the tutor behind PADESS SmartMath Academy
We help learners build a clearer understanding of mathematics, through patient teaching, guided practice, and attention to where each learner is starting from.
Why PADESS was started
Based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, we teach at our centre and live online, for families looking for help with school maths and exam preparation.
A learner may need more than another explanation of the topic the class is on this week. They may need time to go back to an earlier idea, to ask a question they were afraid to ask, or to practise with someone who can explain a mistake clearly.
PADESS was founded to make that kind of focused maths support available, through lessons in Uyo and live online teaching.
How we teach
- Start with the learner
- An assessment is what tells us where to begin, rather than the page the syllabus happens to be on.
- Make the reasoning clear
- We explain how a method works and why each step is there, not only what to write down.
- Make room for practice
- Learners work through examples with guidance, then try questions on their own.
- Use feedback to plan the next step
- We go back over the difficulties and move the focus as the learning develops.
What we will not do
- Promise a grade. No honest tutor can.
- Fill a class past the point where every learner gets attention.
- Teach shortcuts to pass a test that collapse the next year.
- Tell you your child is doing fine when they are not.
What we are trying to do
Mission
To help learners understand mathematics, trust their own thinking, and build the skills school and examinations ask of them.
Vision
More learners approaching mathematics with confidence, and able to reach careful teaching wherever they live.
What we hold ourselves to
- Patience
- Room to ask questions, make mistakes and try again.
- Clarity
- Ideas explained in steps, and expectations said out loud.
- Individual attention
- We read the working, not only the final answer.
- Consistency
- Regular practice, prepared lessons, and following through.
- Honesty
- Progress and difficulty reported as they are, without promising a grade.
- Respect
- Learners and families treated with care, and questions asked without embarrassment.
